Dr. Kimberly Nguyen grew up in Huntington Beach and started practicing dentistry in 1991. She is an alumni of USC Dental School where she was recognized for her scholarship, leadership, and service. Affectionately known by her patients as Dr. Kim, she founded Cottage Dental upon the values of creating a warm and positive environment that redefines the standards of dental care. Dr. Kim enjoys serving the community and has been involved with Rotary International, Crittenton Board, Chamber of Commerce, Fullerton College Community Advisory Committee, and the Fullerton Library Foundation. In 2009, Dr. Kim opened the doors of Cottage Dental to serve the community in what would become an annual free dental event called “Free Smiles Day”. Since then, she has brought together professionals in the fields of medicine, vision, and dental to grow the annual dental event into a full healthcare day now known as “Rotary Care.” She is also an active member of the American Dental Society, California Dental Society, and Orange County Dental Society. When not donning her white coat, Dr. Kim enjoys being a world traveler, exploring new cuisines, and spending time with family, friends, and a good book.
Dr. Johanna Paco attended the University of California, Los Angeles and received a bachelor’s degree in Biology. In 1991, she graduated from the University of Southern California Dental School with recognition for Excellence in Oral Pathology. Dr. Paco is kind and gentle and is an active member in her church. She has been with Cottage Dental since 1997. When she’s not providing dental care, she works with her husband educating others about the importance of good nutrition and a healthy active lifestyle. She is a Certified Personal Trainer and leads fitcamps with her husband. She is also a grandmother of three and enjoys spending time with her family on her spare time. Some of her hobbies are reading Personal Development books, dancing, watching action movies and enjoying life.
Dr. Patricia Gusti is a second generation dentist, following the footsteps of both parents. She received her Bachelor of Arts in Integrative Biology from University of California, Berkeley. Upon the completion of her undergraduate study, she worked as a dental assistant, then decided to further her education earning her Doctor of Dental Surgery from Indiana University School of Dentistry.
A member of the American Dental Association, California Dental Association, and Orange County Dental Society, Dr. Gusti’s philosophy of practice is “Treat others as how you want to be treated.” She takes great pride to serve her patients with empathy as well as to provide uncompromised care in a friendly environment. Together with her husband, they are enjoying their new role as parents to Owen and Neil. They love to spend time together strolling around the neighborhood. When time allows, she also loves to take body pump or pound class at the local gym.
Dr. Kalapsa grew up in Atwater, CA before moving to Albuquerque, NM to earn her Bachelor of Science degree in Biochemistry from the University of New Mexico. While at UNM, she competed at the Division I Level for the Lobo softball team. Dr. Kalapsa then went on to earn her Doctor of Dental Surgery degree with high honors from The University of the Pacific Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry in San Francisco, CA. During her time in dental school, Dr. Kalapsa pursued her passion for serving her community by being an active member and officer in her school’s community service organization. She has led and organized several public education and outreach programs to promote dental health and awareness to the community, including two dental mission trips to Jamaica.
After earning her dental degree, Dr. Kalapsa chose to continue her education by completing a general practice residency at the Long Beach VA Hospital. As an active member of the American Dental Society, California Dental Society, and Academy of General Dentistry, Dr. Kalapsa maintains a commitment to high quality and patient centered care while striving to learn the newest techniques available. Dr. Kalapsa believes in treating all patients with kindness, respect, and compassion. When not providing dental care for her patients, Dr. Kalapsa enjoys traveling, kayaking, and spending time with her family.
Dr. Avery Mittman, (Anesthesiologist) has been part of the Cottage Dental team for over 20 years as our board certified anesthesiologist. His unique training background makes him a wonderful addition to our team of family-oriented healthcare professionals. Dr. Mittman received his bachelor’s in Biology at UCI and continued on to graduate studies at UCLA. After his studies in biology, Dr. Mittman graduated from Chicago Medical School and carried out his anesthesiology residency at the University of Kansas Medical Center. His professional experience ranges from camp physician to anesthesiologist at various surgical centers across Orange County. Dr. Mittman’s devotion to the medical field also extends beyond the office. He has participated in over 5 research projects on various innovative medical topics. When he isn’t living and breathing the medical field, Dr. Mittman enjoys cardiac-enhancing activities, that is, tennis, skiing, cycling, and camping. He also indulges in the coordination and acoustic training that is the musical art of piano.
Dr. Curtis was born and raised in Southern California, Dr. Curtis received his Bachelor of Science degree in biological sciences at the University of California, Santa Barbara in 1998 and graduated from the UCLA School of Dentistry in 2004. He completed a 1-year general practice residency at the West Los Angeles VA Hospital in 2005 and worked in the general practice of dentistry in Long Beach until 2009.
Dr. Curtis found a passion for endodontics (root canal) in dental school at UCLA which led him to seek a specialist education and certification. From 2009 to 2012 Dr. Curtis was engaged in a fellowship and endodontics residency at the Oregon Health and Science University in Portland. His joint research project with the director of the post-doctoral program at OHSU involving modern materials and methods in endodontics was published in 2012. Upon receiving his specialist certification, he returned to Orange County to practice. Dr. Curtis is known for the sincere care that he shows his patients. He is happy that he can relieve pain allowing his patients to save their natural teeth.
In his free time, Dr. Curtis is an avid fisherman and free diver. He also enjoys stand up paddle boarding, kayaking, skiing, snowboarding, playing guitar and piano as well as drawing, painting and sculpting.
